I hope that this change in weather has you thinking of delicious fall recipes! As many of you know, I have been operating the Triangle Meat Buying Club, a non-profit organization that helps connect citizens (or what I like to call ‘co-producers’) with local meat producers.

The idea started in 2007 because I wanted to have access to local meats from farmers (producers) that I knew. I wanted the highest quality: hormone free, antibiotic free, free-range and humanely raised meats. What started as a quest for myself, quickly turned into a full scale business. The first month I started with heritage turkeys. Next month I had friends and co-workers that wanted to order, too. Soon, I had friends of friends and others wanting to order. Over the years, we have grown and grown and grown. What became quickly apparent was that I did not just want to ’sell’ meat. I want to connect YOU, the co-producers, with the farmers that are growing your food. These are the faces that are seldom seen and often under appreciated. I think it is important to put a face with the product and get to know your farmers! These are real people, with families, making a living through sustainable production practices. I want you to ‘KNOW YOUR FARMER’! Few have this opportunity and so I ask you to please join me in helping to support these producers, but also have piece of mind that you will have the absolute highest quality, sustainably raised LOCAL meats, cheeses, eggs, etc. possible.

What started as offering one meat a month grew to offering a meat, chickens, maybe some cheese and eggs to now. I am happy to announce that every month I will be offering:

FREE-RANGE VEAL (when available)
MUSHROOMS (when available)
And who knows what else I will find…
